Student Teacher Mini-Grants

The College of Education prepares extraordinary educators — students who go on to serve communities across the state and beyond, helping to build bright minds from kindergarten to college. For students seeking licensure, a critical component of this preparation is student teaching, which occurs during their final semester. Student teaching prepares these future educators for their careers by giving them the opportunity to gain experience in K-12 schools.

During student teaching, students in our teacher preparation programs go into the classroom and apply what they’ve learned — for example, introducing children to new concepts, new materials and new ways of thinking. Since student teaching does not come with a stipend or paycheck, our students incur out-of-pocket expenses when they take an innovative learning experience into their classroom that requires materials or supplies. This includes items like robotics motors, new reading materials and DNA lab kits, which unfortunately often come at a great expense on a student budget.

This is where we need you! To help support student teachers, we’re raising funds to support our student teacher mini-grant program. This program allows undergraduate and graduate students engaging in their required student teaching to apply for up to $200 to purchase materials and supplies to implement their projects in their classrooms.

We hope you will help support this important project with a gift. A gift of $200 will cover one full mini-grant, but gifts of any size can be combined to provide the needed support. Your gift will help support not only College of Education students here at NC State; it will also benefit thousands of children in our community who will use these materials and supplies in their classrooms. There are nearly 200 NC State students who participate in student teaching. With an average classroom of about 30 students, this project has the potential to reach about 6,000 children across the state each year.

Thank you for helping us lead the way in education. Go Pack!

Budget Breakdown:

In recent years the average cost for students to purchase supplies for their student teaching has been approximately $200. With a goal of $5,000, donors will be able to help fund 25 student teachers as they bring innovation into their classrooms. The more funding raised, the more grants can be given!

Funds will be placed in the Student-Teacher Mini-Grants Fund. If the project does not meet its fundraising goal, exceeds the project need, or the project cannot be completed, the funds will be used for the overall enhancement of the Student-Teacher Mini-Grants Fund.

Gifts are received by the NC State University Foundation, Inc. and may be distributed to an affiliated foundation that manages the fund supported by the donor.
