NC State Make-A-Thon is a three-day sustainability innovation challenge bringing students together on interdisciplinary teams to develop the best solution to a sustainability challenge facing NC State or the local, state or global community. Here is a snapshot of Make-A-Thon's impact over the past eight years:
Participation in the NC State Make-A-Thon offers students the opportunity to build skills and competencies employers seek most: application of knowledge, collaboration on interdisciplinary teams, entrepreneurial thinking, problem solving and innovation.
Our crowdfunding project seeks to raise money to purchase supplies for maker kits for the ninth annual NC State Make-A-Thon, taking place January 26-28, 2024. We are also hoping to invite Aly Khalifa ‘93, a social innovation and entrepreneurship speaker, to educate students and the community on the positive impacts of sustainability and social responsibility.
The goal of our crowdfunding campaign is to support 45 teams with maker kits ($2900) and a featured speaker ($2500).
Budget Breakdown:
Supplies for maker kits to plan and prototype solutions = $2,900
Maker kit supplies might include: Internet of Things supplies, Raspberry Pi, LEDs, printed circuit boards, resistors, measuring tape, jumper wires, grid notebooks, X-Acto knife, safety glasses, Post-it Notes, pencils, Sharpies, steel ruler, glue, duct tape, tape measure, scissors, sewing kit
Professional speaker for the Make-A-Thon kickoff = $2,500
Funds will be placed in the NC State Entrepreneurship Fund. If the project does not meet its fundraising goal, exceeds the project need, or the project cannot be completed, the funds will be used for the overall enhancement of the NC State Entrepreneurship Fund.
Gifts are received by the NC State University Foundation, Inc. and may be distributed to an affiliated foundation that manages the fund supported by the donor.
