Makerspace Campaign to Support Student Success

The NC State University Libraries Makerspace is a pillar of the academic experience for students on campus. By providing hands-on access to emerging technologies of making, including 3D printers, scanners, electronics prototyping kits, sewing machines, laser cutters and many other maker tools, we ensure students are well equipped to understand and tackle academic challenges.

Each semester, the Makerspace serves thousands of students on campus, integrating hands-on learning as they carry out their academic work. Students from various disciplines use the Makerspace to transform their ideas into realities that benefit the Wolfpack community. By partnering with faculty and corporate partners, we assist in producing graduates who have the skills that give them a competitive advantage when entering the workforce.

Budget Breakdown:

The Libraries will use all funds raised to support Makerspace operations by purchasing supplies and performing maintenance. Below are some examples of typical Makerspace operating costs:

$200: provides eight rolls of 3D printer filament that produces 32 student projects

$500: provides 25 bundles of 3D printer filament that supports 80 student projects

$1000: enables the Libraries to maintain and upgrade 3D printers and other technologies

$2000: funds a full semester of student learning sessions and workshops

$4000: funds a full year of learning sessions and workshops

Funds will be placed in the Libraries Student Resource Fund. If the project does not meet its fundraising goal, exceeds the project need, or the project cannot be completed, the funds will be used for the overall enhancement of the Libraries Student Resource Fund.

Gifts are received by the NC State University Foundation, Inc. and may be distributed to an affiliated foundation that manages the fund supported by the donor.
